Developing a premium fruit juice drink range

The Brief

An award-winning drinks machine company was looking to develop a range of juice drinks that would complement their core high-end touchless dispensing solutions product range.  The primary driver for the customer was to add another product into their offering that would generate an ongoing recurring revenue stream.


The customer had done their market research and was looking to transform the way fresh juices were served and to create a premium high-end product for serving in offices, universities, hotels and conference centres.


The customer brief was for us to research the potential premium flavours and tastes that would allow us to develop a range of flavours that would be a good fit for their target audience.

Our Approach

Using our unique blend of flavour know-how, expertise and innovation we first looked at the key drink trend indicators and insights, from emerging micro and mega trends.  Using this information, we looked at the most relevant recipes that could be served still or sparkling, packed in either a 5 or 10 litre bag-in-box.


Our NPD process is an iterative approach taking into account the chemistry and science that will impact flavour, acidity, colour and sweetness.  Initial samples were produced, blind tested inhouse before defining a range ready for customer testing in our laboratory.  Further iterations were produced before a final range of fruit juice flavours were considered optimum.


Additionally, bespoke labels and boxes were designed that meant the product was ready to ship direct to their customers if and when required.

The Outcome

We were able to develop a range of juices and flavoured waters made from natural extracts with no artificial ingredients, low in calories and low in sugar.  We have now seen some of the fruit juices in some of the largest hotel chains in the UK and co-working spaces in and around London.
